The Civic introduces the CVCC engine, a major breakthrough in reducing emissions, lowering vehicle costs, and increasing fuel efficiency. CVCC technology was later incorporated into the Accord, Prelude, and CR-X.

Going All-Electric
Honda introduces the EV. Plus, the first all-electric production vehicle powered by advanced nickel-metal hydride batteries. Electric motor and battery innovations would go on to influence later electric drive vehicles, such as the Insight and FCX Clarity*.

The Civic GX* (Natural Gas) becomes the first and only fully assembly line produced CNG passenger car to run on a very low-emission alternative fuel, helping reduce fuel costs and our dependency on oil.

Canada’s Most Affordable Hybrid Is Launched
With a Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price of $25,800 and equipped with a 4th generation Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system, Honda launches Canada’s most affordable hybrid: the 2006 Civic Hybrid.

Honda + Hydrogen
Honda launches the zero-emission FCX Clarity*, named “the most important car in 100 years" by Top Gear. Its fuel cell creates electricity through a process that combines oxygen with hydrogen, the most abundant element in the universe.
